This directory was developed by the California Department of General Services to promote greater public awareness about state government's commitment to installing on-site, renewable energy sources at state-owned and leased facilities.

Information on On-site Renewable Energy Generation at State-owned Facilities
When you visit the Renewable Energy Directory Web site, you will see a map of California, with flags identifying where renewable power generation sources are currently installed or planned at state facilities.

California's Green Building Program
Through Governor Schwarzenegger's Green Building Initiative (Executive Order S-20-04), California is leading by example in reducing the amount of electricity, natural gas, water and other resources that state facilities consume on a daily basis, while also reducing their carbon footprints.

The initiative directs state agencies to take action to reduce grid-based energy purchases for state-owned buildings by 20 percent by 2015 through a variety of measures, including the use of on-site renewable energy technologies such as solar, fuel cells, wind and other sources.

The Department of General Services, as the state's real estate builder, planner, and manager, is spearheading the effort in partnership with the Green Action Team, an inter-agency group chaired by the Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency.
